Tony Stonem

Tony Stonem

Tony Stonem is represented as a teenager in skins, we can see from his bed covers that like many a teenagers he is interested about sex .But from Tony we can see how he is actually very different from many teenagers as he has a very clinically white bedroom , which doesn't fit a stereotype of teenagers. further more his clothes in his bedroom and other draws and items are particularly neat which yet again wouldn't be associated which a teenage lad. We see in the clip of tony how actually hes awake just before his alarm and is just waiting for it to set off, this mis-en-scene is used to input things about Tony to create his character, and from the opening scene we can already see that tony is a teenager with a different twist. further more the way he is situated between the nude man and woman on his bed sheets may lead to thoughts about his sexuality and how its shown.

Understanding Filmmaking

Scene 1 -  The idea

Shot 1 , the original sources of inspiration

The Remakes:
James Bond , Casino Royale, was a remake of the 1960's original , many a film have been remade ,  mainly it is done because new technology and improvements to graphics can be made, the new remake of the James Bond film was a huge success and lead Daniel Craig to be a successful bond.

Real life events:
Titanic, this was a base on the unfortunate sinking on the great original boat , the famous story of it hitting an ice burg and sinking and lots of people dying because of the minimal safety. Directors use the idea of a real event because there is so much information that can be used on them and therefore there are minimal problems in story writing.

Original ideas:
These are basically moments where a writer has a moment of full inspiration , these are absolute keys and are valued extremely high to producers, this is because most films come from these ideas e.g star wars, the crazies , most films that come from ideas are huge hits.

Adaptions:
These are mainly books that have been made into films, a classic example is harry potter , this is probably the most successful remakes in history.

shot 2 :
The producer:
the producer is the person who decides if the idea will be made , this is chosen by the fact if they think the film will sell. This is also where they develop the idea further.

shot 3:
The director:
The director is some one who works with the producer , they turn an idea into something that has the potential to be filmed , the better the director the better the producer can attract the film writers.

shot 4:
the writer:
Most of the time the writers approach the producers with an idea or script for the film , but if the directors or producers want a specific person they will go out and seek hem themselves.

Shot 5:
The treatment:
This is where they key events and characters are laid out for the film and also the treatment should make this film unique. The statements should be great to read  e.g a comedy should make you smile and you see how different the film is .

Shot 6:
The pitch:
A pitch contains all the information for the producer to sell and create finances ,and get the financial backing for the film.

Scene :2

Shot 1:
pitching the film:
the producer uses the pitch and the treatment to try and get the film full backing the producer will use lots of persuasion and it doesn't all ways work.

shot 2:
the production company:
This is where the producer desperately tries to persuade the company for finance , if the producer can persuade that he film can make profits , then the company are far more than interested to invest.

shot 3:
Sales distribution broadcast:
This is where the film sells of its rights like the sales, this is where they provide money for sales and owning a percentage of the film takings, the broadcaster is where the film will be shown on TV after its cinema craze this is a great thing for the producer to have . and the distribution, this is where the distribution company will sell the rights to cinemas and screen shows.

shot 4:
public investment:
this is where the film can take it to the national council to try and receive grants from the government , they do this to produce more talent .

shot 5:
Private finance:
A producer can go to private customers and request finance , this may be in return for product placement or similar ideas.

shot 6:
Tying down the writer:
once the producer has collected all their public and private funding they can then gt the development deal and seek a writer first they would have to go through the agent before getting the writer a deal, the writer will get set fee's throughout the film.

scene 3:
script development:

This is where the writer will produce a synopsis , This is now when the writers and writers produce a actual detailed script on make sure they are all happy with the script, and then when the writer and producer are happy with the draft of the script , it is sent to the finance committee who will all have their own opinions on the draft. Then when everyone is happy the script is 'locked off' , and the sales treatment is made this is where a synopsis is made for the sale , basically advertising the script.

Scene 4:
The Packaging:

The packaging process is where the director and producer turn the film into something that's a real proposition for the future ,Then comes the cast this is a make or break part of the packaging as a bad cast will create a bad film but good actors are expensive, but the big ones are always bought in due to their own personal fan base. Good heads of production can gain backing from the financiers , like the production designers and other figure heads. This is the film is looked at in a pure money making project. Also the producer now needs to know exactly how much the film will cost including all aspects. Now the producer must present this package to a number of potential funders to get money to go on and make the film.

Scene 5:

Financing:

The possible fiancees can be found all all over the world , so in order to get the interest the money the producer must travel all over the world. Most finance , is private from large companies who want to involve their name in the film , there are also co-finance which is basically a partnership of businesses investing in the film. The producer can also sell the rights as 'pre sales' to create money for the film. Then after the banks have secured the money the film will get the green light, this means everything is on plan.

scene 6:

Pre production:

the kick off meeting then happens , this is where all the makers of the film sit down and discuss the circulation of the film. Then the casting happens this is where the cast is grouped  , this usually has 30 ish members. The story board is then created so every scene in the film is then detailed and reviewed by the director for the film ,the production design where the manager and the director look at details and new recruits like where for the film etc.Effects shots are planned in much more detail than normal shots and can take months to design and build. This is all done by the special effects manager,Then the production triangle is created to produce the film .

Scene 7:

The shoot:

the first day of photography this is a huge day funding is released, The camera department then is responsible for getting all the footage that the director and editor need in order to tell the story. Then all the lighting and sound systems are setup up so the make up and shooting can begin .Then acting begins this is key its not the full movie but its important for the drafting .Then you have the stunt and pshyical affect team, then the film productions are run with military accuracy .If they fall behind schedule, the financiers and insurers may step in.

scene 8:

Post production :

Then the editor will start to produce some of the footage that comes in, this is key for the film, then when the rough cut is created the sound engineers start to put every little detail of noise to make sure its good,Digital effects are added by specialist effects then the credits are made for these , Then all the colour in the movies are enhanced by the production team .After the final cut the film reaches lock, it is now finished and ready for making .

scene 9:

sales:

To secure the sales of the film and distribution , the producer highers a sales agent for the selling of the film , The trailer is then made so the film is made so that the film can be seen on a world wide basis , then the toolkit is made so the film is finally available to sell .The film is then sold to the market and marketing and release dates are set, then the deals are done with the cinemas and the film is ready for showing .

scene 10 :

Marketing :
To help sell the film to distributors more sales agents are brought in for the marketing of the film, the marketing of the actuall audience of the film,Then the advertising for the film is key e.g advertising in town centres or on buses ,Then the film is sold to the screeners so it can now be ready for general release, they then use the exhibitors.

Scene 11:
Marketing:

The premier, this is where a star studded group of journalists and actors, this is key for getting the film out into the public's eyes, with over 3000 screens in the uk, its key making sure that the film is shown on as many screens as possible, then the exhibitors, revenues, the revenue is then taken from the grose and then the distributors and everyone else starts to take their cuts from the film,Once the distributors have been paid, the financiers can recover their investments, as laid out in the recoupment schedule, then after all expenses are paid , most profits end up coming from dvd sales.

Scene 12 :

other windows:

Hospitality sales from hotel channels and flight entertainment can bring in millions in additional revenue.and so can dvd and video like previously said , this is where most profits for the film are actually made, then for more revenue tv rights are sold to businesses like sky and the bbc for their license to show the film, then also you have the idea of turing the film into a ideo game or other gaming entertainment, then after all this the profits are all split to the separate people involved in the making of the film,Then the film is finshed you can never know how much profit can be made from future distributors, and all other aniversary or remakes.

This the end review

This is the end

what made me want to go and see 'this is the end' is the extensive amount of huge comedy actors from the US.The film had also been stated to be the comedy of the year to many  a critic.

With the same directors of pineapple express which is one of my all time favorite film . Seeing the trailer for this film and expecting it to be a huge comedy with several hilarious gags throughout the film.
The films plot of several Hollywood comedy stars meeting at James francos house for a party and the end of the world happening seemed to be very appealing .

the plot did not disappoint , although the film seemed rather on the long side it was very funny and the special collaborations between the actors and special guests like rihanna and Emma Watson combined very well.other actors include Seth Rogan who also directed the film , and Jonah hill, these two had a previous relationship through films like super bad and there hilarious mix have made several films very funny which is why i thought the film would be great.

A dislike of the film was that almost identical in some ways to pineapple express which was hilarious but i felt that some of the jokes used were overused from other films , which leads me on to another point that the film actually all took place in one area which was annoying as i thought the film was very caged in which was a disappointment . Although on a plus side for the film i thought that the roles of James franco and Jonah hill were played superbly and the twist on the exorcism between the gang and Jonah hill must of been a highlight for the film as i was laughing for days from the joke.
